Under
the Sea
When
Sebastian, the red crab in Disney's The Little Mermaid film, sang Under the Sea,
a new aquatic world had just opened for many kids and adults too. Under the sea
where fishes are colorful and happy, where some of them swim in groups, or
where some species need another one to survive are the most wonderful water
landscape. Most of the people can't go under the sea unless they work in a submarine
or dive. For those we don't work in a submarine or dive, we may visit the
aquarium. Shedd Aquarium is an indoor public aquarium in Chicago. It was for
some time one of the largest indoor aquarium in the world. I have visited it
many times and each time I discovered a new thing from this peaceful world
under the sea. This time I went to complete a project nevertheless it was a
pleasure to walk-swim very close amazing creatures. Some of them are more
attractive to me. Despite a large line of people to reach the entrance, I knew
it was going to be a good day.
Once inside of
the aquarium, I immediately walked to find the seahorses. Seahorses have a
special attractive to me. Their appearance and movements are like bubbles of
serenity. Male and female seahorses dance together especially when they are in
a period of courtship. This beautiful dance is known as a Predawn Dance.
Something really different from other species is that the male fertilizes in
his pouch the eggs that the female transfers to him. It seems that seahorses
don't like stereotypes, for that reason they had decided to have their own
rules. I like when you can make the difference.
Then I kept
walking to find my friends in elegant black and white suits; the penguins.
Immediately I saw them, my mouth made a big smile. While I was paying attention
at every detail of them I remembered tons of documentaries about their lives
that I already watched on TV. Also, I remembered the movie Happy Feet in which
a young emperor penguin needs to be able to sing to attract a mate, but he has
a frightening voice. When they are very small, they are adorable. In the
aquarium I learned that a newborn penguin chick is small enough to fit in your
hands. Also, I could see the different size between emperor penguin and little
blue penguin. We have 17 penguin species in the world. This area is one of the
most attractive one of the aquarium. I love when they swim and walk in groups.
Lots of families spend a long time there enjoying the beautiful show.
Last but not
least, I saw a couple of dolphin swimming like the most beautiful and harmonic
dance. Dolphins are the most gorgeous swimmers in the world. They are like
kids; dolphins are known for their agility and playful behavior. While I was
watching them swimming in the pool from one side to another, I couldn’t stop
thinking about why in some parts of our planet they are hunted. I read that
some dolphins have taken more than thirty minutes to die. I wish that dolphins
could live in peace in their habitat or in a place that protect them like here
in the aquarium.
Truly, it was
an amazing day for me. As I was looking at the pictures that I took in the
aquarium I realized how blessed we are. We live surrounded by amazing
creatures. Some of them we know and another we have started to discover. I
really enjoy the time I spent in the aquarium. I consider very important to
visit this kind of places. Everybody has to know about other living beings. We
share this beautiful planet with them. We are not the owners. We must learn and
take care of them. Knowledge is our unique tool to save Earth and all its
habitants. Always I learned something new, something interesting that I can
share with my friends and family. Also, visiting the aquarium could be an
opportunity to meet new friends and have fun.
